The Stamford Art Association produced a virtual presentation video for the opening for Ylem.

A visual exploration of the barriers social distancing created mentally, physically and emotionally during the pandemic of COVID-19.

2020 - 2021

Simmons was also awarded first place in the national juried show, “Clearly Human IV,” presented by St. Louis Artists’ Guild in St. Louis, MO for Hugger-Mugger.

Concomitantly, his art piece, Night Pool: Immersion, placed to exhibit at Jadite Gallery, New York, NY and won third place in the international juried show, ”Water.” It also recently displayed in the national curated show, “Lost in the Weeds: Human Nature and Climate Change” at the Athens Institute For Contemporary Art, Athens, GA.

Solo Art Exhibitions

Evanscence Eidolon- Solo Show

During his solo show at Kilgore College, he simultaneously was in "Figure It Out,” a national juried show hosted by 120 Art Gallery in Taylor, TX. Previous to this, his entire collection of “Evanescence Eidolon” was shown in a solo show at The Ampersand Guild in Macon, GA.

 

Art Community & Art Collections

Simmons was also shown in a curated gallery show at Frontline Arts, Branchburg, NJ, and he was included in a collection at the Zuckerman Museum of Art, Kennesaw, GA. More recently he was asked to create an art piece for the permanent collection, “Twenty Years of Marais Press: Imprinting a Campus and Collection” at the Hillard Art Museum and attended as a visiting artist to create it on the Lafayette campus of LSU. As an artist who attends to express his art at large scales, it was an inspirational experience to connect and be chosen by the first mobile printmaking studio and leading art community in large format printmaking as a finalist to participate in the BIG INK event of Atlanta Printmakers Studio where he created a woodblock called Hello the House. Professor

D.L. Simmons received his BFA in Studio Art from Maryland Institute College of Art and studied printmaking abroad at Charles Rennie Mackintosh-Glasgow College of Art. Simmons then went on to earn an MFA in Printmaking from Louisiana State University. He currently serves as Professor of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). SCAD received recognition by Art and Object as the #1 Art School in the U.S. for 2022.

Previously, he taught as Assistant Professor of Art at The University of Texas at Tyler (UTT), where he delivered a wide array of instruction: 2D design, printmaking, drawing, figure drawing, comp & design, professional practice and served as a graduate student professor. Before joining UTT, Simmons served as an Assistant Professor of Art at Middle Georgia State University (MGA) and the Assistant Gallery Coordinator for Peacock Gallery. He also was an Adjunct Professor of Art at the University of South Carolina Upstate, Limestone College, Converse College and Towson University. As an extracurricular activity, Simmons served as an instructor for the Colors Outreach Program offered by the Spartanburg Art Museum. Prior to serving full-time in higher ed, Simmons was a faculty member at the Jemicy School in Maryland working with dyslexic and gifted youth. His teaching experience has allowed him to identify the necessity in adapting and adopting teaching techniques equipped for each student’s uniqueness and relative to the pace of their learning styles.

Visiting Artist

Most recently, in November, 2021, D.L. Simmons was invited as a visiting artist at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His original art piece will be included in the permanent collection, “Twenty Years of Marais Press: Imprinting a Campus and Collection” at the Hillard Art Museum.

He has also been a visiting artist for The Paper Fox Press at Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin. He also presents at a minimum, annually, at the Southern Humanities Conference (SHC) and at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA).

Academic Presenter

Simmons has taken part in several conferences presenting academic research. Just for reference, he has served as chair for the SAMLA 90 convention for “Into the Ludic” and co-presented in a collaboration, titled, “Joseph Conrad: The Glamour of All Artistic Work.” A full list of his research with descriptions can be found on his CV.
